Knowing your optimal drag factor will allow you to quickly adjust the damper on any Concept 2 rowing machine for the best results.
The damper is adjusted on the side of the fan. The highest resistance is 10. On the performance monitor, the drag factor can be seen by first selecting More Options, then selecting Display Drag Factor. Concept 2 says the best drag factor is usually between 100 and 140.
Drag factors can vary from machine to machine for a variety of reasons including age, wear, different C2 models, and altitude.
By recording your erg scores at different damper settings, you will know your best drag factor. The key here is that when you use other ergs, say at the gym or at an indoor regatta, go to Display Drag Factor and quickly adjust the damper until you find your sweet spot.
